Call for a Community Hospital at The Groves, Wrexham

The former Groves school site has lain derelict for more than a decade in the heart of Wrexham. Plaid Cymru councillors are calling for the site to be brought back into use as a community hospital to help relieve pressure on the over-stretched Maelor Hospital.

Why it matters:

  • Patients who no longer need acute care are stuck in beds at the Maelor because there are no step-down facilities.

  • Ambulances are waiting outside A&E for hours because of the logjam inside.

  • A community hospital at The Groves would free up beds, improve patient flow, and provide rehabilitation and preventative services locally.

  • It would also bring a derelict town-centre site back into community use.
